Temperature in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch has dropped below 15 degrees Celsius
As temperatures fell below 15 degrees Celsius, residents in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir are using age-old techniques like wood fires and heating tea to beat the cold.
Dal Lake’s surface has frozen in Srinagar as well, with Tuesday’s low temperature being minus six degrees Celsius.
Up till December 30, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted sporadic light rain and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued by the meteorological service for December 24 and 25 due to localized cold waves in the area.
Temperatures in numerous areas of North India are falling as a result of the severe cold. Tuesday’s lowest temperature in Delhi was 7 degrees Celsius, and portions of the nation’s capital were covered in a light layer of fog. Monday’s temperature ranged from 8 degrees Celsius at the lowest to 20 degrees Celsius at the highest.
As the national capital’s temperatures continued to plummet, homeless people sought safety in night shelter houses.
The persistently chilly weather in Rajasthan had a major effect on day-to-day living as temperatures dropped. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the temperature in Bikaner was 9 degrees Celsius.
According to the IMD, the lowest temperature in Srinagar on Monday was -7 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperature was 7 degrees Celsius.
A cold wave and heavy fog are also predicted for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and other states from December 23 to 25.
On Tuesday, the national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was categorized as “severe,” with fog limiting vision. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reports that around 8 AM, the AQI was measured at 401. With a reading of 403 at 7 am the day before, the AQI was also classified as “severe.”
The specific AQI values were 402 in ITO, 417 in Alipur, 423 in Anand Vihar, and 425 in RK Puram.
The following categories are used to classify an AQI rating: 0–50 mean good, 51–100 mean acceptable, 101–200 mean moderate, 201-300 mean poor, 301–400 mean extremely poor, and 401–500 mean severe.
