Cold wave continues in North India and temperature has dropped in many states
New Delhi: With temperatures falling in many states, North India is suffering from extreme cold. Tuesday’s lowest temperature in Delhi was 7 degrees Celsius, and portions of the nation’s capital were covered in a light layer of fog. Monday’s temperature ranged from 8 degrees Celsius at the lowest to 20 degrees Celsius at the highest.
As temperatures in Delhi continued to plummet, residents were seen congregating around bonfires to fight the cold, while others sought cover in night shelter houses.
The persistently chilly weather in Rajasthan had a major effect on day-to-day living as temperatures dropped. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the temperature in Bikaner was 9 degrees Celsius.
With temperatures falling below zero in several places, the cold wave is still having an impact on people’s everyday lives in Jammu and Kashmir. At 5:30 am on Tuesday, the temperature in Srinagar was -5.2 degrees Celsius. -0.6 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg, -6.6 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, -0.8 degrees Celsius in Banihal, and -4.6 degrees Celsius in Kupwara were among the other reported temperatures.
According to the IMD, the lowest temperature in Srinagar on Monday was -7 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperature was 7 degrees Celsius.
A cold wave, according to the IMD, occurs when a station’s lowest temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or below for plains and 0 degrees Celsius or lower for hilly areas.
A strong cold wave is expected to hit Jammu and Kashmir beginning on December 24, according to the IMD. A cold wave and heavy fog are also predicted for Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and other states from December 23 to 25.
