Rahul Gandhi met the victims of violence in Parbhani, Maharashtra
During his visit to Parbhani, Maharashtra, which had been the scene of violence earlier this month, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that the deceased had been “murdered” because he was a Dalit and was “protecting” the Constitution.
“I’ve met the victims’ relatives and those who were slain and assaulted. They showed me the photos, films, and post-mortem report. This death is definitely a custodial one. The Chief Minister lied before the Assembly to convey a message to the police after he was assassinated. Rahul Gandhi told reporters, “This young man was killed because he was a Dalit and was defending the Constitution.”
According to the Lok Sabha LoP, the RSS’s philosophy aims to “destroy” the Constitution, and the issue has to be “resolved” right now.
“Those responsible for this should face consequences, and we want this issue to be settled right now. Politics is not being played… Since the chief minister made this declaration, the ideology bears responsibility. He also said that the people who assassinated him have responsibility and that prompt action must be done.
Rahul Gandhi, state Congress President Nana Patole, and other Congress officials paid respects at Parbhani, Maharashtra, which was devastated by violence.
On December 10, when a copy of the Indian Constitution was allegedly vandalized, violence broke out in Parbhani city. Shahaji Umap, the Special Inspector General of Nanded, had previously said that eight charges had been filed in relation to the incident and that around fifty persons had been detained.
The relatives of the dead Somnath Suryawanshi have called for the accused police officer who was in charge of Suryawanshi’s killing to be executed.
“After my brother was detained, the police provided no information about him. They didn’t tell me that my brother had died of a heart attack until December 15, the day he passed away. This incident’s perpetrators ought to face consequences. There is no use in suspending them. Since they murdered my brother, they need to face consequences. We want for them to hang until they die. The brother of the late Dalit activist Premnath Suryawanshi informed the reporters, “We will say the same to Rahul Gandhi.”
A deputy superintendent of police and nine other police officers were minorly injured during the disturbances, the official said, adding that all arrests were made at the site.
