Rajasthan: Death toll in tanker truck collision on Jaipur Bhankrota Ajmer Road rises to 14

Jaipur: According to DCP West Jaipur Amit Kumar, the number of fatalities from Saturday’s tanker truck accident on Bhankrota Ajmer Road in Jaipur has increased to 14. A truck filled with chemicals collided with a tanker carrying LPG and other cars in the Friday collision, which caused a huge fire.

Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, the principal of SMS Medical College, informed the media report in the early hours that 13 persons have died in the disaster thus far before DCP Kumar confirmed it.

The victims’ relatives received condolences from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Rajasthan,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X. To those who lost a dear one, my condolences. I hope the wounded get well fast. Those impacted are receiving assistance from the local government. Additionally, the PM declared an ex gratia of Rs. 50,000 for the wounded and Rs. 2 lakh for the relatives of the dead.

Further information was released on Friday by SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhati, who confirmed that seven individuals had died and ten to twelve others had been wounded. More than 60% of the victims were burned, he said, and around 28 people were hospitalized, six of whom are on ventilators.

“The accident and subsequent fire occurred in the Bhankrota area of Jaipur early today on the main Ajmer Road,” Kumar, who had called the situation “horrific,” said. Many trucks and trolleys were turned to ashes, and about two dozen vehicles caught fire. The collision happened next to a gas station.

“A collision involving multiple vehicles, one after the other, caused the fire to start,” he said. There are efforts on to put out the fire.
