According to NCS, Nepal was struck by an earthquake of a magnitude of 4.1

Kathmandu: According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), Nepal experienced an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 early on Thursday. According to the NCS, the earthquake happened at 7:22 AM Indian Standard Time (IST).

At latitude 28.56 N and longitude 84.23 E, the earthquake was detected 10 kilometers below the surface.

The National Centre of Seismology posted the information on X.

“EQ of M: 4.1, On: 19/12/2024 07:22:47 IST, Lat: 28.56 N, Long: 84.23 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal.”

According to Nepal’s National Society for Earthquake Technology (NSET), the majority of earthquakes happen in the Alpine belt, which crosses the East Indies, the Himalayas, Iran, Turkey, and the Balkans, and the Circum-Pacific belt, which borders the Pacific Ocean.
The plate boundaries account for around 95% of all earthquake activity.

The nation is seismically vulnerable and faces a very high danger of earthquakes, according to the NSET. According to historical data, Nepal could anticipate two earthquakes with a Richter scale magnitude of 7.5-8 every 40 years and one earthquake with a magnitude of 8+ every 80 years.
