Amit Shah said, in the last one year a large number of Naxalites were killed
The Chhattisgarh government’s fight against the Naxalites was praised by Union Minister Amit Shah on Monday.
“Many Naxalites have been killed in the last year,” Shah stated during a news briefing in Jagdalpur. The Chhattisgarh administration has implemented a very excellent plan and taken praiseworthy action against the state’s Naxalites. By March 31, 2026, we shall eradicate naxalism from the nation.”
The Union Minister said that the families impacted by naxalism will get assistance from the national government in coordination with the Chhattisgarh administration.
“The families impacted by naxalism will get assistance from the federal government in coordination with the state governments…The Union Minister went on, “I implore everyone to lend their support to the central and state governments’ campaign to eradicate naxalism.”
The minister said on Sunday that over 9,000 Naxals have given up their weapons in the Northeast between 2019 and 2024, along with many young people from Naxal-affected regions in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Shah emphasized the Union Government’s efforts to rehabilitate former rebels into society during his meeting with surrendered Naxals in Jagdalpur.
He pointed out that tackling the violence that has impeded development in many areas of India, particularly those impacted by the Naxals, was a top priority when Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose him as Home Minister in 2019.
In the Northeast alone, 9,000 persons have turned themselves in between 2019 and 2024. Many young people in Naxal-affected districts in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra have also turned themselves in, Shah added.
He clarified that the government put laws into place to help those who were prepared to give up violence reintegrate into society by providing them with a mechanism to do so. Shah went on to say that the government has created a thorough strategy to assist people affected by Naxal violence as well as those who had surrendered.
When I was appointed Home Minister by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, a large number of young people were turning to violence, upsetting both their personal lives and the progress of places like Kashmir, the Northeast, and areas devastated by the Naxals. We made the decision to let anybody turn up their guns if they so desired,” Shah said.
