Priyanka highlights the serious impact human-animal conflict in Wayanad has on local residents
Congress woman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra raised awareness of the growing man-animal conflict in her Wayanad, Kerala, area during her maiden question in Parliament.
Priyanka emphasized the serious effects this war has had on the local population when speaking in the Lok Sabha.
“Speaker Sir, I would like to add the question on man-animal conflict,” she stated, addressing the speaker. Ninety individuals have been impacted by this issue in my Wayanad constituency in the last year, and someone was attacked by wild elephants yesterday.
“So, I would also like to ask that the compensation be increased, especially for farmers and ordinary people who are being affected by this conflict,” she said, calling for more money to be given to those impacted. Thank you.
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition MPs from Kerala demonstrated at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Saturday, December 14, calling for a relief package for Wayanad, which was devastated by a landslide.
A number of people were seen carrying banners that said “Justice for Wayanad,” including CPI(M) MP John Brittas, Congress General Secretary and party MP KC Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi. “Give Wayanad a relief package” and “Wayanad ko nyay do, bedbav na karein” (Justice for Wayanad, no prejudice should exist).
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra told reporters during the demonstration that “no discrimination” should occur during natural calamities and that the federal government is not offering Wayanad a special package.
“Wayanad will not get a special gift from the government. We have written to the Prime Minister and asked the Home Minister. Similar widespread destruction has also occurred in Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress party is in power. In all instances, the Central government is denying the victims their just compensation owing to political reasons, despite their requests for assistance from the Center. They are Indian citizens. The Wayanad MP said that prejudice should not occur amid natural calamities.
