NATO Secretary General expressed concern over the idea of holding peace talks on the Russia-Ukraine war without Russian President Putin’s “presence at the table”
The concept of having peace talks on the Russia-Ukraine conflict without Russian President Vladimir Putin “at the table” has alarmed NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who has called the initiative “risky,” according to The Hill.
“It is crucial that whenever there is a deal that it is a good deal, with all the elements in there,” Rutte said Wednesday at a talk at the Carnegie Europe think tank in Brussels, according to The Hill.
He said, “I think these were very good considerations, but again, for me to start to discuss this, we start a sort of debate amongst ourselves, within the alliance, with our European partners, without having Putin at the table, and that is risky.”
According to Mark Rutte, Ukraine need to start negotiating with the Kremlin. That being said, it must do so with “strength.” He restated what he said earlier this month when he urged NATO nations to provide more weapons to Ukrainian troops who could be faltering on the battlefield, according to The Hill.

“Make sure that Ukraine has what it needs to get to a position of strength when those peace talks start, when the Ukrainian government has decided they are ready to do so,” Rutte said before to the meeting of foreign ministers.
Following one of the worst drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday called for a robust international reaction.In the enormous operation, Russia fired approximately 200 drones and 93 missiles, including one thought to be from North Korea, according to the Ukrainian president.
