BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari targeted the opposition’s EVM concerns, said this
The opposition’s worries about the dependability of electronic voting machines (EVMs) were criticized by BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari on Wednesday. He suggested that if the problem is that serious, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should step down as an MP and that the governments of Jharkhand and Karnataka, as well as all Telangana MLAs, should also step down, since they were all elected using the same EVMs.
“The opposition in India is lagging behind in terms of the people’s mandate,” the BJP leader told media. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and Sonia Gandhi have been accused by others of being against us and of being part of an anti-people coalition, the INDI alliance. They are creating fresh drama every day to deflect attention from their failure in order to conceal it.
“The opposition will either assault democracy and the EVMs or refuse to allow the Parliament to function. Everything has now been explained by the Indian Election Commission using statistics. They are now claiming that they would take the matter to the Supreme Court. The same Supreme Court rejected this plea a while back on the grounds that it was factually incorrect and that it was impossible to tamper with the EVM, according to Bhandari.
He went on to say, “The SC said to the opposition that when you lose they blame but when they win, the EVMs are fine.”
“All the time the opposition spends blaming the Election Commission, Supreme Court, and democracy if even 10 per cent of it was spent in introspection and thought as to how the people’s mandate was not won and how the anti-people were formed, then there would be no need to do all this drama,” Bhandari said.
“If they are so adamant about this issue, then Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should resign from her position as an MP, and the governments of Jharkhand and Karnataka should step down as well,” Bhandari taunted the opposition. In a same vein, because they were all chosen using the identical EVMs, Telangana’s MLAs need also step down.
This follows the opposition’s appeal to the Supreme Court in response to rising concerns about the transparency of EVMs and claims of electoral irregularities in the most recent elections.
The ECI has been regularly requested by opposition parties to guarantee voting process accountability and openness.
This follows a high-level discussion involving senior Congress politician Abhishek Manu Singhvi, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, NCP (SCP) chairman Sharad Pawar, and Supriya Sule.
In response to the Supreme Court appeal filed by the Opposition, which challenges disparities between voter turnout and EVM counts, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday reaffirmed worries over the dependability of EVMs.
She urged court action to provide clarity to the matter.
In an interview with media, Chaturvedi emphasized the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) duty to handle these issues.
“There is some responsibility of the Election Commission of India, especially when the former Election Commission of India has also said the voter turnout increases and there is a mismatch observed in the numbers, there should be checking on it,” she said.
She also pointed out inconsistencies in the voting register, especially in Maharashtra, but the SC will now address them.
The CEO of Maharashtra has previously denied allegations of EVM tampering, claiming the machines’ strong security and integrity.
On November 23, during the counting process, a VVPAT Slip count of five randomly chosen polling places per Assembly Constituency was carried out in front of the candidates’ representatives and counting observers. Accordingly, the slip count of 1440 VVPAT units from 288 Maharashtra State Assembly Constituencies has been compared with the corresponding data from Control Units,” the Maharashtra CEO said.
