Delhi Police Crime Branch detains a gangster associated with Neeraj Bawania gang

New Delhi: One criminal connected to the Neeraj Bawania gang has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. The culprit has been identified as Rakesh, also known as Sunny, a resident of Gulab Bagh Bindapur, Delhi.

The defendant has been implicated in more than 45 criminal cases in Delhi, including offenses under the Arms Act, armed robbery, murder, and attempted murder. The accused is reportedly linked to many infamous and imprisoned criminals, including Ravi Gangwal, Sunil Rathi, Rohit Choudhary, and Neeraj Bawana, according to Delhi Police. He was found to be a declared absconder in six dreadful instances.

The Delhi Police declared a reward of Rs. 50,000 for the guilty on November 28, 2024.

The horrible killings of Paras alias Goldy and Pradeep alias Bola in the police jail in 2015 as they were being transferred by bus were committed by the accused, Rakesh alias Sunny, together with Neeraj Bawana and other others.

He was located close to Kilokari Village Sunlight Colony thanks to technical monitoring and a covert informant, and the Crime Branch team was able to detain him there.

The team got private information about Rakesh, also known as Sunny, on December 8, 2024. Five live cartridges and an illegal sophisticated handgun were found on the accused, who was then taken into custody.

Sunny, also known as Rakesh, was born in Nehru Nagar, Anand Parbat, Delhi, in 1985. Sunny encountered other criminals while incarcerated in Tihar Jail. Following his release, he joined Paramjit, also known as Ramesh Kaka, and the two of them started robbing people on motorcycles.

After being freed in 2008, Sunny made contact with Goldie, a gang member of the renowned Diwan Chand Lala gang. Sunny and Goldie attacked Dharmendra Pandit, a gang member of Rakesh Pehlwan, with knives.
Later that year, Sunny and his accomplice reportedly attempted to escape after stealing a motorcycle. But they were caught by a police unit. In addition, he fled after an altercation with an unnamed person in Bindapur in 2010 after stabbing a guy.

Around the same time in 2010, he also fled after killing a guy called Rakesh after a nocturnal argument at a gas station in Saraswati Vihar.

He committed thefts at several locations in Delhi with the help of accomplices.Theft, robbery, murder, and attempted murder were among the seventeen offenses for which he was arrested in 2010.

He continued his illicit activities and joined many violent criminal organizations after being freed from judicial custody. On June 25, 2014, Rakesh and his friends gathered close to Subzi Mandi Railway Station with the intention of killing Rajeev, also known as Bunty, Sonu Pehalwan, and other people. Rajeev, popularly known as Bunty, was instantaneously killed when Rakesh and his friends shot him in the neck.

Accused Rakesh, also known as Sunny, has been in jail continuously since 2014. He was granted temporary bail under the guise of his father’s surgery, but he failed to appear before the jail authorities, violated the terms of the bail, and was deemed a proclaimed absconder in six cases related to the murder and attempted murder in 2024 by the court.

Under the guise of his partners’ Neeraj Bawana gangs, Sunny was reportedly engaged in an extortion scheme that threatened businesspeople and used violence to enforce demands for money.
