The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a public interest litigation (PIL)
A people Interest Litigation (PIL) asking for an order to promptly remove the obstruction of Punjab’s national and provincial roads and guarantee easy travel for the general people was denied by the Supreme Court on Monday.
A bench consisting of Justices Surya Kant and Manmohan said that the court cannot consider repeated petitions on the same topic since the case is already pending.
According to the bench, certain steps have been done in the matter that is still pending.
“Why do you keep submitting petitions? We’re already looking at the bigger picture. You came here in spite of the fact that we have already taken some action. Don’t submit the same petition again. Some are applying to play for the gallery, while others are doing it for promotional purposes. “Repeated petitions on the same issue cannot be entertained,” the bench said.
Claiming to be a social activist in Punjab, Gaurav Luthra has petitioned the Supreme Court for an order to immediately clear the obstruction of Punjab’s State and National Highways, which he claims are “encroached and blocked illegally by alleged farmers and farmer unions” at various locations.
The PIL asked the Union of India, the states of Punjab and Haryana, and other authorities to lift the ban on farmer demonstrations and to make sure that the protesting farmers do not obstruct any national highways or railroad lines.
It also looked for guidelines on how the Union and the states could guarantee the public’s easy passage.
A commission led by retired Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Justice Nawab Singh was established by the supreme court in September to investigate the complaints and requests of farmers protesting at the Shambhu border.
