Punjab urban civic body elections will be held on December 21

Chandigarh: Punjab’s poll authority has declared that the elections for municipal corporations, councils, and Nagar Panchayats (urban civic bodies) would take place on December 21.

State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhary told reporters at a news conference on Sunday that all the preparations needed to hold free, fair, and peaceful elections had been made and that the model code of conduct had been implemented in the relevant districts.

According to him, the polling will take place on December 21 from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the vote count will take place at the polling site itself that same day.

The nomination submission procedure will begin on December 9 and end on December 12, according to State Election Commissioner Chaudhary. The scrutiny will take place on December 13 and the deadline for withdrawal of nominations is set for December 14.

According to him, voting will take place in 598 wards of municipal councils and nagar panchayats, as well as 381 wards of municipal corporations.

After issuing directives prohibiting the carrying of firearms and ammunition, district judges, who have the appropriate authority, will decide if depositing weapons is necessary.

He advised that copies of the final voter lists for the municipal body elections are available in the offices of the relevant registration officers (SDMs) and other relevant offices, as the publication of these lists was completed on December 7.

He said that the commission’s website, sec.punjab.gov.in, offers nomination form 20 and a sample affidavit for download for the convenience of voters.

A spending cap of Rs four lakh has been set for candidates running in the Municipal Corporation election. This is followed by Rs 3.6 lakh for Class I Municipal Council, Rs 2.3 lakh for Class II Municipal Council, and Rs 2 lakh for Class III Municipal Council. He noted that Rs 1.4 lakh has been set as the spending limit for Nagar Panchayat election contestants.
