ESCOM submits proposal to Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for estimated power tariff hike for next three years
On Friday, the Karnataka power Regulatory Commission (KERC) received a request from the Electricity Distribution Companies (Escoms) to raise the projected power tariffs for the next three years.
Following the release of the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) system announcement, KERC started the rate revision procedure. The Eskoms have requested a rise of 67 to 70 paise per unit of power for 2025–2026; 70 to 75 paise per unit for 2026–2027; and 85 to 90 paise per unit for 20EE27–2028, according to the MYT system. Customers will bear the cost of the price rise if KERC accepts this.
In response to the idea, Karnataka Minister KJ George said, “It is a routine process…all the stakeholders will be called and it will be discussed.”
According to KERC sources, the rate increase will be almost consistent.
According to their proposed rate revision petition, Bescon would have a revenue deficit of Rs 2,572.69 crore in 2025–2026. In order to get around this, it has been suggested that the tariff be raised by 67 paise per unit year 2025–2026, starting in January 2025.
Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) and the other Eskoms have solely proposed tariff increases. In this context, KERC gets reports from the general public, businesspeople, and entrepreneurs. The final rate increase order will then be issued.
