Suvendu Adhikari took part in a protest march on Thursday in the Esplanade neighborhood of Kolkata, which denounced assaults on minorities in Bangladesh and the imprisonment of Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das.

“I participated in the protest rally against the atrocities committed against Hindus in Bangladesh, which was attended by hundreds of Hindu devotees and respected Hindu monks on Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata. We requested that the Hindu monk, Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu, who had been wrongly imprisoned and denied due process of law, be released unconditionally. On Thursday, Adhikari made a post on X.

“Bangladesh’s chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has to keep in mind that appeasing the extremist elements would only encourage extremism that will spread over the whole nation. Wherever they may reside, the Hindu community is a real patriot and works for the nation’s greatest interests, whereas extremists destroy everything,” he said.

Following the incarceration of priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, violence against minority populations has increased in Bangladesh. A Bangladeshi court said on Tuesday that Hindu spiritual guru Chinmoy Das would be held in prison on suspected sedition charges until his next hearing, which is scheduled for January 2, 2025.

According to the Daily Star Bangladesh, the Chattogram court postponed the hearing on Chinmoy Krishna Das’ bail appeal till January 2. Due to the absence of the defense attorney, Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Saiful Islam rescheduled the hearing.

On November 25, Chinmoy Krishna Das, a member of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, was taken into custody in Dhaka. The arrest came after a local legislator submitted a complaint on October 31 alleging that Chinmoy Das and others had disrespected Bangladesh’s national flag during a Hindu community event.

Das’ detention and the refusal of his release have drawn harsh criticism from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Many people are incensed by the detention and are demanding that he be released right now.
