After the Maharashtra assembly election results, Congress chief Nana Patole targeted BJP
New Delhi: Following a meeting with the Election Commission over the outcome of the Maharashtra assembly election, Maharashtra Congress head Nana Patole blasted the BJP on Tuesday, claiming that the Mahayuti government did not win due to popular votes but rather to the votes of the BJP members in Delhi.
“The people did not elect this administration. It was created as a result of the Delhi-based BJP members. They don’t give a damn about people. We’ll see what the Election Commission decides after our meeting today,” Nana Patole told reporters.
A Congress team, headed by Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, had already met with the Election Commission to discuss its concerns over the Maharashtra election vote.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi later told the media that the list was updated with the names of almost 47 lakh voters in Maharashtra between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
“The basic framework of the Constitution is threatened by improperly conducted elections. Our proposal was for the Election Commission to gather information and provide facts about the concerns we have brought up, from which we would draw conclusions,” he said.
“The widespread removal of voter names in Maharashtra was our first concern. In order to comprehend the rationale for such widespread deletions, we need comprehensive data, both booth-wise and constituency-wise, and we have stressed that the forms and procedures specified for this process must be adhered to. At this time, this data is not accessible. “It will assist in determining the reasons behind so many deletions,” Singhvi said.
“We brought up additions to the voter list in our second point. We saw that over 47 lakh voter names were added during the almost five months between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Where are these additions’ forms? What was the premise for doing door-to-door verification? “That raw data is what we need,” he said.
Additionally, the Congress leader noted a 7% disparity in voting participation.
Additionally, he said that between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, voting in 118 seats rose by 25,000 or more votes.
On November 23, the Maharashtra assembly vote results were announced, and the Mahayuti alliance—which consists of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—won handily.
