UKPNP strongly condemns recent notification issued by the Government of Pakistan regarding appointments in PoJK

Belgium: A recent announcement by the Pakistani government on the hiring of officials in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) has been sharply criticized by the United Kashmir People’s National Party (UKPNP).

A recent announcement from the PoJK’s Office of the Deputy Secretary General confirmed a number of honorary nominations to regional boards, committees, and governance positions. With positions covering the areas of Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bagh, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Poonch, and Neelum, the appointees were chosen based on their qualifications and recommendations.

The UKPNP’s Foreign Affairs Committee President, Jamil Maqsood, called the notice a flagrant breach of the State Subject Law, which is an essential protection for maintaining the region’s identity and independence.

To safeguard the identity and rights of PoJK’s indigenous people, the State Subject Law was created. But the announcement, which was made without first engaging the local population, has sparked worries about how the region’s political and demographic stability as well as its governance structure may be threatened.

“This act appears to be a calculated move to dilute the rights of the people of PoJK and erode their historical identity,” Maqsood said. He went on to say that such acts not only erode the rule of law but also intensify the region’s already unstable political environment.

The UKPNP urged in their statement that the notice be immediately revoked and that the competent authorities provide a public explanation. The party also called on the administration to reaffirm its commitment to respecting the State Subject Law’s requirements and refraining from any further infractions.

Furthermore, the UKPNP has urged the UN and human rights groups to pay attention to the problem and hold those involved responsible.

Political parties, civil society groups, and PoJK residents were urged by Maqsood to resist these “unlawful actions” by working together.

He reiterated the UKPNP’s commitment to defending the region’s rights and autonomy by all available legal, political, and diplomatic avenues.

“The international community must act decisively to ensure that such violations of local laws and international principles do not further destabilize the region or undermine the rights of its people,” Maqsood said.

Reiterating its commitment to the rights and self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the UKPNP has always pushed for the preservation of their political and cultural identity.
