Pakistan has reported three new cases of polio.

Balochistan has reported the most instances (26 out of 59), followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (16), Sindh (15), and Punjab and Islamabad (1 each). By distributing vaccinations and starting awareness campaigns to stop the virus’s spread, local health officials have stepped up their attempts to contain it.

According to ARY News, the increase in polio infections has alarmed international organizations, who have called on Pakistan to enact emergency steps.

These organizations have been promised prompt action by Pakistan to contain the virus. Later this month, foreign organizations fighting polio are also anticipated to go to Pakistan.

Although it may infect unprotected people of any age, polio is an infectious viral illness that predominantly affects children under the age of five. The virus replicates in the host’s gut and spreads by the fecal-oral pathway, often through tainted food or drink.

It may cause complete paralysis and affect the nervous system. Fever, exhaustion, headache, nausea, stiff neck, and limb discomfort are among the first symptoms, according to ARY News.

Permanent paralysis, usually in the legs, affects around one in 200 afflicted people. Five to ten percent of people who are paralyzed may die from asphyxia as a result of their respiratory muscles becoming immobile.

Although there is no known cure for polio, it may be successfully managed with strict immunization. There are two safe and effective vaccinations available: the oral polio vaccine and the inactivated polio vaccine. Depending on the local epidemiology, these vaccinations are administered in different combinations all over the world.
