Mohammad Nazimuddin expressed concern over the petition calling Ajmer Sharif Dargah a temple
Jaipur: Jamaat-E-Islami Hind Rajasthan President Muhammad Nazimuddin voiced his worries Monday after a Rajasthani lower court granted a plea alleging that the 800-year-old Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a temple.
“It is somewhat depressing that the court has received the application and sent out a notice. The shrine is eight hundred years old. It is globally recognized,” he said.
He said that people of all religions held Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in high regard as a Sufi saint who helped the masses.
Nazimuddin voiced his worry, saying, “Our biggest objection is that the lower courts have accepted such applications.”
A petition filed by the Hindu Sena asserting that Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a Shiva temple was granted by a Rajasthani court.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of AIMIM, said on Sunday that adherence to the Places of Worship [Special Provisions] Act, 1991 is necessary. It is forbidden under the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act to alter the nature of places of worship from their original state on August 15, 1947.
“India’s secular character is embodied by the Ajmer Sharif Dargah… Salim Chishti Dargah is also being investigated, in addition to Ajmer Sharif Dargah. Asaduddin Owaisi informed reporters that the act pertaining to places of worship must be adhered to.
According to the plaintiff’s attorney, a local court in Ajmer earlier this month ordered that notifications be sent to three parties in a civil litigation alleging that the Dargah of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer has a Shiva temple.
