In order to get answers from the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister on the government’s inability to acquire paddy, Singh, a Congress MP in the Lok Sabha, submitted a calling attention notice under Rule 197 of the Rule of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

“Paddy procurement has been totally derailed this year for the first time. Unfortunately, I informed the Union Food Minister in July that you would have issues if you don’t make room for new supplies. When I visited the mandis in my area, I came across farmers who had been waiting for ten to fifteen days only to sell their products,” the Congress MP stated in a letter to the Lok Sabha Secretary General.

Singh said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s MSP pledges to farmers had not materialized. He said that everyone was harmed by the delay, including millers, laborers, and farmers.

“The majority of the NDA government’s assurances to farmers, including the legal entitlement to MSP, have now mostly been forgotten. Farm activist Jagjit Singh Dallewal chose to fast till his death after being unlawfully jailed by the Punjab and Central governments after protesting in February and being shot at like terrorists. Everyone involved—farmers, artiyas, laborers, and millers—has suffered as a result of these delays and shortages,” the letter said.

Given the reduced yield and lesser revenues this paddy season, the Congress MP called on the Indian government to raise the MSP on wheat by Rs 500.

Singh said, “The Government of India should raise the wheat MSP significantly by Rs 400-500, given the lower yield and lower earnings this paddy season.”

Siva Tiruchi, an MP for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), submitted a notice of adjournment motion in the Rajya Sabha on Monday morning in order to address the continuing violence in Manipur.

In order to pressure the government to solve the Manipur problem, the DMK Rajya Sabha MP filed the motion under rule 267 (Notice of Motion for Suspension of Rules). More than 250 people have been killed in the unrest in Manipur, according to Tiruchi, and a solution to the problem is urgently needed.

Additionally, Congressman Manickam Tagore requested a notice of adjournment to address the need of looking into the claims made by the US Justice Department against billionaire Gautam Adani about “bribery and corruption.”

Citing the “public interest” as the rationale for the adjournment motion, he said that people had a right to know whether their government was “protecting corporate malpractices.”
This comes after both chambers had short sessions last week due to a commotion caused by the opposition’s desire to talk on the Adani indictment.

On November 25, the winter Parliament’s first session began, but because of interruptions, both Houses were adjourned somewhat early. The winter session is scheduled to conclude on December 20.
