After coming to power, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will go on an official visit to China

Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli would begin an official visit to China on Monday.

Since he took office in July of this year, this will be his first trip abroad.

Li Qiang, Premier of the People’s Republic of China’s State Council, has graciously invited Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to make an official visit to the country from December 2–5. “His spouse, Radhika Shakya, will accompany the Prime Minister,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Oli is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing when he is there. A bilateral discussion with his Chinese colleague Li Qiang would follow, during which they would discuss issues of shared interest.

According to the foreign ministry, Oli will also meet with Zhao Leji, who is the chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China.

In addition to official activities, the prime minister of Nepal will give a keynote speech at Peking University. The Prime Minister will also speak at the Nepal-China Business Forum, which is being organized by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing.

Prime Minister; Yuba Raj Khatiwada, the Prime Minister’s Economic and Development Advisor; Parliamentarians; senior government officials; business sector leaders; and members of the media,” the statement said.

On December 5, the prime minister of Nepal and his entourage will return to Kathmandu.

The visit coincides with the ongoing discussion over whether or not to sign the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) accord. Prime Minister Oli’s own CPN-UML administration and the Nepali Congress have failed to establish credibility on the matter.
