International Criminal Court denies validity of arrest warrant against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Galant
Israel: The Israeli Prime Minister said that the State of Israel contests the legality of the arrest warrants issued against former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The following morning, it was reported, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, with US Senator Lindsey Graham, who updated him on the efforts that he is advancing in the US Congress against the ICC and countries that have cooperated with it.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have been the targets of arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, which accused them of “crimes against humanity and war crimes.”
Allegations of imposing starvation practices in Gaza and targeting people are among the complaints.
“Parallel to the efforts in Congress, Israel submitted an announcement to the ICC today regarding its intention to appeal to the court along with a demand to delay implementation of the arrest warrants,” the Israeli prime minister said in a series of postings on X.
“Israel’s notice of appeal shows in detail to what extent the decision to issue the arrest warrants was baseless and without any factual or legal foundation whatsoever,” the Israeli prime minister’s official statement said.
It said, “Should the ICC reject the appeal? This will underscore to Israel’s friends in the US and around the world how biased the ICC is against the State of Israel.”
In a news conference earlier, White House news Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre voiced her worries over the ICC’s decision, saying, “We fundamentally reject the court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials.” She criticized the prosecutor’s hurried approach to obtaining the warrants and highlighted concerning procedural flaws that resulted in this conclusion.
Jean-Pierre had once again said, “We fundamentally reject that the ICC has jurisdiction over the situation, and so that’s something that we’ve been pretty clear about and we’ll continue to.”
This declaration was made in light of the ICC’s accusations against Israel’s leaders and the US’s ongoing support for Israel.
