Security forces launched a massive search operation in several districts of Manipur
Imphal: According to state police on Thursday, security officers carried out thorough search operations at a number of susceptible locations around Manipur‘s hill and valley districts.
The police provided a security escort to locations that were at risk and made sure that different trucks carrying necessities moved safely.
In a post on X, Manipur police said that “security forces conducted search operations and area dominance in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.”
The message went on to say, “On NH-37 and NH-2, the movement of 262 and 336 cars transporting necessary goods has been guaranteed. To guarantee the free and secure transit of the vehicles, stringent security measures are implemented in all susceptible areas, and a security escort is supplied in critical areas.”
To improve regional security, the security forces also set up 94 checkpoints throughout several areas.
“A total of 94 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and no one was detained by police in connection with violations in different districts of the state,” according to the X post.
On directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Investigation Agency filed two further charges earlier Tuesday in relation to the recent incident in Jiribam.
“Acting swiftly on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ directions to bring the culprits to book expeditiously, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched thorough investigations into three major cases relating to the recent spate of violence in Manipur,” according to a statement issued by the NIA.
On November 11, an unidentified group of armed militants opened fire on the Borobekra Police Station and set fire to a number of homes and businesses in Jakuradhor Karong. A fierce gunfight ensued from the police and CRPF members of Borobekra PS retaliating. Two deceased corpses were recovered as a result of further search efforts, the statement said.
Congress wants to talk about the Manipur issue in Parliament in the meantime.
In a notice of adjournment motion submitted to the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Congress MP Hibi Eden urged the administration to “take accountability and implement immediate measures to restore peace and justice.”
It should be mentioned that since last year, the fighting in Manipur has resulted in many deaths, vast damage, and enormous displacement. Bias in managing the issue and a poor reaction to rising tensions are among the accusations made against the state government. The Congress MP’s notification said that “the role of armed groups and the circulation of inflammatory content have further deepened mistrust between people.”
The notice went on to say, “This House has to take immediate action to restore peace and justice, demand accountability, and address the worsening situation in Manipur. India’s democratic principles and the social cohesion of the state are in jeopardy due to the increasing violence.
