“I have some positive news to share from the Middle East today. I have had conversations with the Israeli and Lebanese prime ministers. And I am happy to report: The United States’ proposal to put an end to the horrific war between Israel and Hezbollah has been accepted,” he added.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke this evening with US President Joe Biden and thanked him for the US involvement in achieving the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and for the understanding that Israel maintains freedom of action in enforcing it,” read a statement from Israel endorsing the US president.

“Today, after many weeks of tireless diplomacy, Israel and Lebanon have accepted a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon,” said a joint statement from French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden.

“The declaration made today will put an end to the conflict in Lebanon and protect Israel from the danger posed by Hezbollah and other terrorist groups that operate out of Lebanon. Residents of both nations will be able to safely return to their homes on both sides of the Blue Line as a result of this news, which will set the stage for a long-lasting calm to return, the statement said.

“We are committed to preventing this conflict from turning into another cycle of violence, and the United States and France will work with Israel and Lebanon to ensure that this agreement is fully implemented and enforced.” In order to promote security and prosperity in the region, the United States and France also pledged to spearhead and assist global initiatives for the Lebanese Armed Forces’ capacity-building and economic growth throughout the country, according to the statement.

In a post on X, French President Emmanuel Macron also announced the news.
“I wanted to welcome the ceasefire agreement reached today between Israel and Lebanon,” Macron said.

“A deadly conflict raged across the border that separates Israel and Lebanon for nearly 14 months, a conflict that began the day after the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel,” President Biden said earlier in the day in his address.

“To be clear, Israel did not start this war,” he said. Neither the United States nor the Lebanese people wanted that conflict.
“More than 70,000 Israelis have been forced to live as refugees in their own country since the war with Hezbollah started, watching helplessly as their homes, businesses, and communities are bombarded and destroyed,” Biden said. In addition, Hezbollah’s battle has forced more than 300,000 Lebanese to live as refugees in their own nation. Overall, this has been the worst Israeli-Hezbollah battle in decades.

According to him, the US collaborated with the governments of Israel and Lebanon to establish a truce in order to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah because he believed that long-term security for the people of Israel and Lebanon could not be attained alone on the battlefield.

“The agreement reached today will put an end to the fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border, with effect from 4 a.m. tomorrow local time (US).” “This ceasefire is intended to be permanent,” said US President Joe Biden.

“The Lebanese Army and state security forces will move in over the course of the following sixty days to retake their territories. The reconstruction of Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon will not be permitted. Additionally, Israel will progressively remove its remaining troops over the course of the next sixty days. Furthermore, he said, “Citizens on both sides will soon be able to safely return to their communities and start rebuilding their homes, schools, farms, businesses, and very lives.”

Biden said that the required support would be given, in collaboration with France and other partners, to ensure the agreement is carried out completely and successfully.

“I want to be clear. Israel, like any other nation, has the right to self-defense in accordance with international law in the event that Hezbollah or anybody else breaches the agreement and directly threatens Israel, he said.
“At the same time, this deal supports Lebanon’s sovereignty” , he said.

“This deal can set Lebanon on a path toward a future worthy of its significant past if it is fully implemented,” Biden said. Additionally, the Lebanese people are entitled to a prosperous and safe future.

According to CNN, the protracted battle between Israel and Lebanon started on October 8 of last year when Hezbollah launched an offensive on Israeli-controlled territory in support of Hamas and Palestinians in Gaza.
Following this incident, there were a number of border skirmishes that culminated in Israel’s mid-September military operation.

Israel has launched a ground assault into the battle, killing numerous Hezbollah officials, including Hassan Nasrallah, one of the group’s founders, and injuring hundreds more in an attack using exploding pagers. Despite continuous attempts to negotiate a truce, the situation is still unstable.
