NDRF teams deployed for Pondicherry in view of heavy rain warning in Tamil Nadu
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been called into action for the Union Territory of Pondicherry and several coastal districts of Tamil Nadu due to the forecast of significant rainfall between November 26 and November 28.
According to a statement, two NDRF teams have been stationed in Thanjavur, while one unit each has been placed in Karaikkal, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Nagapatnam, and Maiyladuthurai.
The Regional Metrological Centre, Indian Metrological Department, Chennai, has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall activity in certain Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry districts from November 26 to 28.
According to the announcement, NDRF teams are self-sufficient and outfitted with all the tools necessary for search and rescue missions, including personal protection equipment and suitable communication tools.
It said that all attempts are being done in close coordination with the State Emergency Operation Control Room in Tamil Nadu, and that the control room in Arakkonam is continuously monitoring the situation.
According to an India Meteorological Department post on X on Tuesday, the deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal has been moving north-northwest at a pace of 12 kmph for the last six hours.
“On November 27, it is most expected to continue moving north-northwest and become stronger until it becomes a cyclonic storm.Over the next two days, it will continue to travel north-northwest toward the Tamil Nadu coast, which is a part of Sri Lanka, the IMD stated.
