US State Department targeted Russia over North Korean troops joining Russia

Washington: The US State Department attacked Russia on Monday, accusing them alone of being to blame for the security concerns expressed by the US, Japan, and South Korea over North Korean forces’ participation in the fighting in Ukraine.

“It is Russia–and Russia alone–that is responsible for the very real security concerns that South Korea, the United States, Japan, and any number of other countries have about the movement of DPRK troops to join the fight in Russia against Ukraine,” stated Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the United States State Department, during a press briefing.

Miller said the United States is concerned about Russia’s attempts to recruit Yemeni mercenaries for the fight and Russia’s larger efforts to increase its military might in the face of the crisis.

“There have been rumors of them enticing foreigners, perhaps Yemeni nationals, to join the battle against Ukraine by offering them employment, citizenship, and university admissions. That is undoubtedly something that worries us, in my opinion.

There have been rumors that Russia was attempting to recruit mercenaries, and I should point out that similar accusations have sometimes been made about other nations in addition to Yemen. I can’t confirm that, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest considering the desperation Russia has shown, where they’ve had to bring in a foreign force to fight with them, that they would be hiring mercenaries in Yemen and elsewhere,” he added.

Miller emphasized the US’s commitment to Ukraine’s struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russia and said that the US would not alter its nuclear posture or its support for Ukraine’s defense efforts in response to Russia’s recent experimental intermediate-range ballistic missile strike in the Dnipro region of Ukraine.

“No, we haven’t altered our fundamental nuclear posture, and we don’t see the need to do so, if that’s the strategy you were referring to. The answer is no; we will continue to help Ukraine in terms of our broader strategy. We support their struggle for liberty. We’re going to keep supporting them because we believe in their struggle against a nation that has attempted to impose its will on Ukraine,” he added. (ANI)
