IPS officer Rashmi Shukla appointed as DGP of Maharashtra
Maharashtra: On Monday, IPS officer Rashmi Shukla was reappointed as Maharashtra’s Director General of Police (DGP). Prior to the November 4 Maharashtra assembly elections, she had already been moved by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Days before, the Election Commission had mandated Rashmi Shukla’s immediate removal from her post as DGP Maharashtra.
The Chief Secretary was instructed by the election board to transfer her responsibilities to the next top IPS officer in the cadre.
The Mahayuti coalition, headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won a landslide win in the Maharashtra election. In the state assembly, the coalition secured 230 of the 288 seats.
The Shiv Sena, headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, earned 57 and 41 seats, respectively, while the BJP won 132 seats, according to the results released by the ECI on Saturday.
There was a significant setback for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Twenty seats were won by the Shiv Sena (UBT), headed by Uddhav Thackeray; sixteen by the Congress; and just ten by the NCP (SP), led by Sharad Pawar.
Later tonight, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar are scheduled to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda amid a battle for the position of Maharashtra Chief Minister.
According to reports, the three will meet with the senior leadership of the BJP to discuss government formation in Maharashtra after attending a private event in the nation’s capital.
Devendra Fadnavis, the incumbent Deputy Chief Minister and two-time Chief Minister, is seen as a serious candidate to take the top position for a third time amid the ongoing talks. Shiv Sena leaders, however, are certain that Eknath Shinde remains chief minister.
