Indian Foreign Service officer Dinesh Bhatia appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Brazil

According to a news statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday, Dinesh Bhatia, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1992 batch, has been named the country’s next ambassador to Brazil.

After taking office on August 21, 2019, Bhatia is now the ambassador of India to Argentina. His accreditation was also extended to Uruguay and Paraguay till February 2022.

Prior to this, he held the positions of Ambassador to Guinea, Liberia, and Cote d’Ivoire and Consul General of India in Toronto.

He has also held a number of posts at Indian embassies overseas, such as in Kuwait, Kathmandu, and Madrid.

Bhatia worked as the private secretary to India’s minister of tourism before being sent by the government to the Department of Atomic Energy in Mumbai. In New Delhi, he has also held positions in several departments of the Ministry of External Affairs.

In 1992, Bhatia enlisted in the Indian Foreign Service and was trained at the Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. He completed the 4th Joint Civil Military Course on National Security at LBSNAA and is a graduate of the National Defence College (NDC).

Bhatia graduated from Delhi College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Engineering degree, specializing in Communication and Electronics. He was employed in the private sector before to entering the Civil Service. He is a member of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers.

Bhatia is the author of “Physics for Civil Services Prelims,” published in 1994, and “Devi Purana–A Rendition of Srimad Devi Bhagavatam,” released by Bloomsbury in 2023.

He is wed to Seema Bhatia, a hypnotherapist, psychotherapist, and Ayurvedic practitioner; the couple has a son and a daughter.
