Minister of State for Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday praised Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
During the opening of India’s first Constitution Museum in Sonipat, Haryana, on Saturday, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal commended Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for joining him.
The Union Minister emphasized the significance of the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity outlined in the Indian Constitution while speaking at the inaugural event organized by OP Jindal Global University.
Three key terms in the Constitution are liberty, equality, and fraternity. However, why did the drafters prioritize equality while they were drafting the Constitution? Reading Articles 14 through 18 will reveal that equality is stated first, followed by liberty. ‘Liberty, equality and fraternity’ was Rousseau’s cry during the French Revolution. Babasaheb Ambedkar emphasized, however, that equality is more crucial for India. According to Ambedkar, democracy can only endure if we all maintain our equality, Union Minister Meghwal said.
The Union Minister also brought up Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, a Bengali social reformer who advocated for fraternity.
“Once, Vidyasagar brought an ill and unconscious member of the Valmiki caste. Others, however, questioned him, asking how a Brahmin could claim a member of the sweeper caste as a brother. According to Vidyasagar, we must encourage fraternity across the nation. He said that I clean the inside and he cleans the exterior, which is exactly why we are brothers (problematic ideas). Meghwal said, “This is why we are both sweepers,” adding that brotherhood was also significant.
According to the Union Minister, Babasaheb was able to pilot everything but was unable to do so with Article 370. He further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was able to declare its repeal. “I want to thank Om Birla for this. Even Babasaheb objected to Article 370, which this administration was able to repeal,” Meghwal said.
During his speech during the ceremony, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised the role played by the drafters of the Indian Constitution. He said that on November 26, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the Constitution Day festivities.
In order to honor the memory, beliefs, and achievements of individuals who helped create the Indian Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed holding Constitution Day on November 26. Now that nations all across the world are embracing democracy, we may say this. We are pleased to report that we were able to convey Vasudhev Kutumbhkam’s message over these seventy-five years of democracy,” Biral said.
