UN celebrated Hindi Diwas at its headquarters, apart from Indian MPs others also participated
Indian Members of Parliament were among those present at the United Nations‘ celebration of Hindi Divas on Friday (local time).
MP Birendra Prasad Baishya emphasized Hindi’s widespread popularity across several nations.
“The diplomatic community, honorable members of parliament from India, public relations representatives from other nations, and a number of visitors graciously attended the UN’s celebration of Hindi Diwas 2024. The Hindi Diwas is being held on UN grounds for the first time. This gives India’s joint endeavor to promote multilingualism with the UN a boost. In light of India’s multilingual and pluralistic society, which aligns with the UN, hosting the event at the UN also helps to reach a larger audience and increase participation, including from Hindi-speaking Diaspora Missions like Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, Mauritius, Guyana, Suriname, and others, according to the UN.
Given that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of Hindi’s official language adoption, Parvathaneni Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the significance of this year’s festivities.
The UN, Guyana, Suriname, and Mauritius and Nepal’s permanent representatives emphasized the crucial role Hindi plays in fostering interethnic relations.
Hindi fans, members of the diaspora, and officials and family members of the UN, PMI, and CGI were urged to participate in the event’s four competition categories.
There included a quiz about Indian civilization, a poetry writing contest on the value of Hindi, a recital/singing of Hindi poems and songs, and an essay competition with the topic of women’s empowerment.
India is home to many different languages and dialects, each with its own distinct regional flavor, according to a UN statement. Hindi, which has a sizable native speaker population, and English have been designated as India’s official languages since independence. India proclaimed September 14 to be Hindi Day in honor of this acknowledgment. This event honors Hindi’s cultural and linguistic importance as well as its contribution to identity and national cohesion.
