Union Minister Prahlad Joshi wrote a letter to Justice Michael D’Cunha expressing regret and apologizing

Karnataka: In a letter to Justice Michael D’Cunha on Monday, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi apologized and expressed remorse for his recent remarks on the D’Cunha Commission. The committee, which was entrusted with looking into alleged anomalies during the COVID-19 epidemic, has just issued a preliminary report suggesting that former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and former Minister B Sriramulu be held accountable.

According to the study, even though there were less expensive local options, the then-BJP-led government paid exorbitant fees for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits.

Speaking on the findings at a Shiggaon electoral rally, Joshi attacked Justice D’Cunha, calling him an “agent.” The minister publicly apologized via the letter after the statements caused a commotion.

“I am writing to you with reference to the recent statements made by me, which apparently have raised a controversy,” Joshi stated in his letter. I am writing this letter because of the same reason.

I must first declare that throughout my many years in public life, I have never spoken or done anything that would have damaged the standing of any former or current member of the judiciary, either directly or indirectly. The judiciary and all of the honorable judges, in my opinion, are the cornerstones of our constitution’s operation. They unquestionably play a significant part in the holy responsibility of administering justice.

In his letter, Joshi also made it clear that his remarks were not meant to disparage the commission or Justice D’Cunha.

“To correct the record, it would be necessary to make it clear that my statements were only and only in the context of the procedure adopted by the commission in not giving the persons allegedly indicted an opportunity,” the Union Minister said. It was not planned or intended to discredit you or the commission in any way or to diminish your reputation among society’s morally upright members.”

He closed by offering an apology: “At a personal level, I must state that if the statements made by me unintendedly have caused any hurt or misgivings to you, I do regret the same and place my sincere apology.” Joshi said that he hoped the letter would settle the matter amicably.
