President Donald Trump nominates Pete Hoekstra as United States Ambassador to Canada
Washington: Former US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra was nominated by US President-elect Donald Trump to be the US ambassador to Canada. “I am very pleased to announce that former Ambassador and former Congressman Pete Hoekstra has been nominated as my United States Ambassador to Canada,” Trump said in a statement released on Wednesday.
“In the great state of Michigan, which we won by a significant margin, Pete is well respected. He served as the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and represented Michigan’s 2nd District in Congress for over 20 years. As chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, he greatly aided our campaign, the statement said.
“I changed the terrible NAFTA Agreement, the worst trade agreement in American history, to the USMCA (Mexico/Canada), something no one believed was possible. For our amazing farmers and working families, we leveled the playing field in trade with Canada and Mexico,” Trump said.
