Maharashtra Elections: Amit Shah appeals to the people of Maharashtra to vote in large numbers
Maharashtra Elections: Maharashtra voters were encouraged by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to cast ballots in big numbers and elect a government that prioritizes the state’s development, women’s safety, and farmers’ advancement.
He wrote on X, “I urge my brothers and sisters who are going to vote in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections to vote in large numbers to form such a government in the state which focuses on the culture of Maharashtra, prosperity of the state, safety of women and progress of farmers.”
He urged people to support the future of the State’s young by casting their ballots.
“Today, use your voting power to respond to those who sacrifice their morals in order to gain power and those who use appeasement as a means of gaining votes. For the bright future of Maharashtra’s young, cast your ballots in huge numbers,” he said.
The single-phase Maharashtra assembly elections will end at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, with voting starting at 7 a.m. There are 288 assembly seats that are holding polls.
Ajit Pawar, the NCP candidate from the Baramati Assembly seat and the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, voted. “The Mahayuti is going to form the Government here and I hope the people of Baramati have faith in me,” Pawar told reporters.
Using his official account on social networking site X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged people to cast their ballots.
“All of the seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections will be up for vote today. I urge the state’s voters to take part enthusiastically and contribute to the beauty of this democratic celebration. “I urge all young people and female voters to cast their ballots in large numbers this time,” PM Modi wrote on X.
Mumbai has increased security in anticipation of election day. Vehicle movements have been monitored by police, especially in places like Dharavi and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar.
2,086 independent candidates are among the 4,136 candidates running in the elections. The NCP is running for 59 seats, the Shiv Sena for 81, and the BJP for 149. There are 101 candidates from the Congress, 95 from the Shiv Sena (UBT), and 86 from the NCP (Sharad Pawar group). In addition to other minor parties, the BSP is running for 237 seats. There are around 9.7 crore registered voters in the state.
The Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar group) make up the opposition MVA, while the BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) make up the governing BJP-led Mahayuti coalition.
The BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56, and the Congress 44 in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections. The Congress secured 42 seats, the Shiv Sena 63, and the BJP 122 in 2014.
