Imran Khan admits wrongful prosecution in Toshakhana case

Imran Khan, the imprisoned former prime minister of Pakistan, and his wife Bushra Bibi were accused of being mistried in the Toshakhana case in a statement posted on Khan’s behalf.

“After keeping me and my wife in jail for a year, the Prosecutor General has admitted in the High Court that there was a mistrial in the ToshaKhana (Gift Repository) case, and that the requirements of justice were not observed,” the Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaaf said in a post on X from Imran Khan’s handle.

Khan’s letter pointed out that the mistrial “is an admission of political vengeance” and said that government agencies and apparatus, including Pakistan’s anti-corruption National Accountability Bureau (NAB), were being exploited for “victimization.”

According to Khan’s statement, these acts cast doubt on Pakistan’s legal system.
The former prime minister then called for disciplinary measures against “the Chairman NAB, the Prosecutor General, and the investigation officers, and the relevant judges” and requested their resignations.

“In order to divert my attention from the fight for true sovereignty, democracy, and the rule of law, I was condemned in five baseless cases in a similarly absurd way, and two more sham trials are being held quickly. But till the last drop of my blood, I will keep fighting for the true independence of Pakistanis,” the statement said.

He voiced his displeasure with Pakistan’s 26th Constitutional Amendment’s approval, claiming that the controversial change was seen as limiting the judiciary’s authority.

The Supreme Court and the High Court are now just kangaroo tribunals with the same standing as any other government agency. The nation’s already corrupt legal system would completely collapse if the judiciary’s authority is curtailed, Khan said in his essay.

The demand for a nationwide demonstration on November 24 to realize the goal of “genuine freedom, democracy, and rule of law” was underlined by him.
