At least 11 killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon’s Tyre region

Lebanon: According to the Lebanon ministry cited by AFP, Israeli attacks on the Tyr area of Lebanon resulted in at least 11 fatalities and 48 injuries. The attacks in the Tyr region follow weeks of previous Israeli military actions in the region. As previously reported by Al Jazeera, the strikes in late October wounded 16 people and damaged a number of cultural monuments.

These latest assaults come after an Israeli bombing in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Sunday that killed Mohammed Afif, the head of Hezbollah’s public relations department, according to the Times of Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also verified the killing of “Chief Propagandist and Spokesperson of Hezbollah, Mohammed Afif” in a post on the social networking site X.

According to the Israeli Defense Forces, “Afif was a senior Hezbollah military operative, in contact with senior officials and directly involved in advancing and executing Hezbollah’s terrorist activities against Israel” .

The IDF further said that “Messages broadcasted by Afif to the Lebanese media glorified and incited terrorist activities against Israel, and he was responsible for numerous psychological terror operations against the Israeli public” .
“Afif’s impact on the terrorist organization proves that he was directly involved in Hezbollah’s terrorist activity against the State of Israel” , the IDF said.

The Hezbollah spokesperson’s killing and the attacks in Tyr follow Sunday’s assault on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence.

After hurling flares at Netanyahu’s house, three people were taken into custody. A Hezbollah drone targeted Netanyahu’s private house earlier in October. Israeli media outlets released pictures of a bedroom window with fractures where the drone hit but was unable to enter.
