Akhilesh Yadav criticised Yogi Adityanath-led government after Supreme Court verdict on bulldozer action

Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, praised the Supreme Court’s decision on the bulldozer case and blasted the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, saying that the BJP government’s bulldozer “will remain parked in the garage.”

In Kanpur, one of the nine constituencies in Uttar Pradesh where by-elections are set for November 20, the Kannauj MP was speaking at a rally in the Sisamau Assembly constituency.

Speaking at the event, Yadav stated: “The bulldozer, which has come to represent this (BJP) administration, has been criticized by the Supreme Court. I appreciate the Supreme Court’s ruling against the administration.

“What can you expect from people who know how to destroy houses?” he said. Now that their bulldozer is parked in the garage, at least today, no one’s home will be destroyed. What could be more critical of the government than this? We have complete trust in the court; our MLAs will be freed one day, join us, and resume their previous level of productivity.”

The Supreme Court ruled earlier in the day that no demolition may take place without first giving the property owner a 15-day notice of reason and according to the legal requirements. The highest court also ruled that the government cannot act as a judge, find an accused individual guilty, and then destroy his property as a form of punishment.

“A person suspected of a crime cannot be found guilty by the executive and punished by having his home or business property demolished. In a ruling, a panel of justices, BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan, said that such an executive action would be beyond its bounds.
