Josep Borrell strongly condemns recent Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia and Gaza
Brussels: The recent Israeli bombardment on Jabalia in Gaza, which claimed several civilian lives, was sharply denounced by Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Borrell highlighted the everyday reality of forced relocation as a breach of international law in a statement, noting that the phrase “ethnic cleansing” is being used more and more to characterize the situation in northern Gaza.
Citing United Nations warnings about the high probability of starvation developing in northern Gaza, he emphasized that using hunger as a weapon of war is against international humanitarian law.
Borrell emphasized that Israel must provide humanitarian assistance access as an occupying power and asked for immediate action to stop this man-made catastrophe.
He called on Israel’s main allies and the world community to act quickly to end Palestinian suffering and ensure the release of captives.
Borrell also cited the study from the International Committee of the Red Cross, which urges everyone to respond quickly—within days, not weeks.
