The kid slid through a tiny gap in a partly covered drain portion, according to officials. The family had invaded the space used for disposing of household rubbish.

After being sent right after to MT Agrawal Hospital, the youngster was pronounced “brought dead” at 6:35 p.m.

Doctor Sneha Khedekar, Senior Medical Officer, was quoted by BMC as saying, “One drowned boy was reported on 10.11.2024 at 1830 hrs, declared brought dead by Dr Sneha Yadav, M.O., at 1835 hrs.”

The main NALLA drain on Gaondevi Road is mostly open, but in some locations, locals have blocked it up for their own convenience, according to a statement from the BMC.

The toddler fell through a little gap left by the victim’s family’s encroachment and closure of a portion of the drain, which served as their house waste pipe exit. Staff from Ward & SWD examined the location,” the statement said.

The area was examined by the BMC’s stormwater drainage and ward teams after the event.
