US Elections: Final results are still awaited in two swing states of Arizona and Nevada, know the reason
US Elections: Arizona and Nevada, two swing states that are currently counting ballots, have not yet reached their final decisions. They are essential in establishing the general political climate after the outcomes of the US election, and it seems that President-elect Donald Trump is ahead in both categories so far.
Arizona, with 11 electoral votes, has been unpredictable in the previous two elections at least, while Nevada, with six electoral votes, is about to vote Republican for the first time in 20 years.
Reports state that 94 percent of the anticipated votes have been tallied in Nevada, with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris lagging at 47.2% and Trump presently ahead at 51 percent. Meanwhile, 70 percent of the anticipated votes have been tallied in Arizona, and Trump leads with 52.3% of the vote, compared to 46.8% for Harris.
The other five crucial swing states—Georgia (16), Michigan (15), North Carolina (16), Pennsylvania (19), and Wisconsin (10), have already been won by Trump. All things considered, the seven “purple” or swing states are crucial battleground states for prospective presidential contenders.
Why Does Vote Counting Take So Long?
The final votes in these two states may not be counted for many days, according to American media reports. The majority of Arizona voters mail in their ballots, and the counting process usually takes several days. Full tabulation might take 10 to 13 days, according to state election authorities.
According to the New York Times, most Arizona voters sent in their ballots. Before the election, officials from Maricopa County, the biggest in the state, warned that it may take over a week to complete the tabulation.
Because postmarked votes may come up to four days after the election, until November 9, counting often takes days in Nevada as well. According to the Times, voters have until November 12 to correct any identity problems on their ballots, and votes are still being tallied in this state.
Looking more closely, over 90% of Arizona voters sent in their ballots and cast their ballots early in 2020 as well. The results cannot be made public until one hour after polls ends, but authorities may begin reviewing and tallying mail-in votes as soon as they are received. Additionally, mail-in ballots cannot be processed until after polls have closed on election day. As a consequence, the vote-counting process is delayed, which may cause many ballots to be counted later.
In 2020, Nevada’s vote-counting procedure was very delayed; news organizations didn’t contact the state for President Joe Biden until five days after the election.
However, as early as October 21, counties are now allowed to start processing and tallying mail-in votes. Instead of waiting for the polls to shut, workers may begin counting early in-person ballots on election day.
According to a report by The Indian Express, Nevada is different from the other battleground states, therefore there may still be a delay in the counting process. According to the article, it accepts mail-in votes that come late; thus, any ballots that are postmarked by November 5 and arrive within four days will still be tallied.
What’s the Current Situation?
