Putin: The West is not Russia’s enemy
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US election, saying Moscow does not see Western civilization as an adversary and commended him for his bravery throughout the contentious campaign.
Speaking at a campaign event in Pennsylvania in July, Putin made his first public comments since Trump’s victory, claiming that Trump had behaved like a genuine man after an attempted assassination. At the Valdai debate club in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin said, “I think he acted very appropriately, bravely, and like a real man.”
Putin said, “I have already stated that we will work with any head of state whom the US nation will trust,” in reference to Moscow’s strained relations with Washington. Yes, this is what we shall do. “I don’t think it’s embarrassing that I call him (Trump) personally. Sky News described him as stating, “I just don’t do it, because the leaders of Western countries called me almost every week at some point, until they stopped all of a sudden.”
“Like a true man.”
Putin said that Trump’s comments about Ukraine and repairing ties with Russia during the election campaign merited notice. “In my view, the desire to mend relations with Russia and end the Ukrainian crisis is something that merits at least some attention,” Putin said.
As the debate shifted to his contacts with international leaders after his win was declared, the Russian president’s comments coincided with the US president-elect’s admission that he was also ready for a chat, telling NBC News in an interview that “I think we’ll speak.”
Trump said throughout his campaign that if won, he could bring about peace in Ukraine in a day. However, he has not provided many specifics about how he would try to put an end to the largest land battle in Europe since World battle Two. The 72-year-old head of the Kremlin issued a single warning: “I have no idea what will happen next. I don’t know.”
Trump’s Connections to Russia
Putin said that he was prepared to restore communication if the Trump administration desired it and was open to talks with Trump when asked what he would do if Trump phoned to propose a meeting. Some suggestions in Western media that Trump was a kind of Russian influence agent have been consistently rejected as absurd by both Russia and Trump.
The alleged Trump-Putin phone conversation comes as Moscow’s troops are moving forward at their quickest rate since the conflict’s early stages, signaling the start of what some Russian and Western officials believe may be the end of the war in Ukraine.
“A small amount of exaggeration”
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, said on Thursday that although Trump’s assertions that he might end the war in Ukraine soon are overblown, they are nonetheless preferable than the ongoing bloodshed.
Naturally, there was some hyperbole about his ability to do the task in a single day. Of course, nothing can solve this issue in a day,” Peskov told reporters Thursday. “However, it will be better if the new administration aims for peace rather than the continuation of the war.” Peskov said, “Putin doesn’t eat people,” in response to Kamala Harris’ previous claim with Trump that Putin would “eat you (Trump) for lunch.”
