Terror Attack in Gulmarg, J&K
The incident in Akhnoor on Monday came days after militants opened fire on an Army truck in the Bota Pathri region, 6 kilometers from the popular tourist destination Gulmarg, on Thursday, killing two troops and two Army porters. The assault wounded a soldier and another porter.
Drones and helicopters were used by security personnel on Friday to conduct a thorough search in the Gulmarg sector and along the Line of Control (LoC). According to sources, security personnel were also using both technological and human intelligence inputs to support the search operation that was initiated in order to identify and eliminate the terrorists responsible for the assault.
As the search operation started for the second day on Saturday, a top police officer said that three to four terrorists are thought to have carried out the fatal assault on an Army convoy in the Gulmarg area. Mohammad Zaid Malik, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, said, “Based on the evidence we received from that location, three to four militants were involved in the attack.”
The number of terror occurrences in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has increased lately. Prior to the incident, on October 18, terrorists in the Shopian area shot and killed a Bihar laborer.
