Conway takes a brilliant catch diving full length to his right against Matt Henry: Watch

In the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Thursday, the toss was finally decided upon after a washout on the first day. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the home side, won it and chose to bat in the cloudy weather. The choice backfired since India’s top order quickly collapsed.

Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal battled to 8 not out in 37 balls while watching his partners fall at the other end, including a spectacular catch by Devon Conway at extra cover to send Sarfaraz Khan back for a duck in the 12.4 overs bowled before the first rain stoppage on Thursday. India lost three wickets for just 13 runs in this period.

After being dismissed for two by Tim Southee, Rohit was the first to go, and Virat Kohli, who had nine balls remaining, was the next to go. And William O’Rourke fired him.

That came after an incredible play in which Sarfaraz terribly mistimed his strolling drive on the up against Matt Henry, and Conway snagged a screamer diving full length to his right.

Conway seemed to be taking additional cover as the ball was rushing past him, but his extended right hand blocked the path. At that point, India’s score was 10 for 3.

For the first time since 2010 at home and for the third time since 1990, the team lost three wickets for 10 runs or less during the second duck of the Indian innings.

Play was halted by rain when Rishabh Pant (3*) was following Jaiswal (8*).
