Superstar Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s film Vettaiyaan takes the second biggest opening for a Tamil film in 2024

The second largest Tamil film launching in 2024 was Vettaiyan, which starred Superstar Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. But TJ Gnanavel’s video fell short of surpassing The Greatest of All Time, also known as GOAT. Based on the early trading data, Vettaiyan will witness a rise in people over the next three days, therefore profiting from the Dussehra celebrations. On its first day in cinemas, Vettaiyan raked up around Rs 30 crore (nett) at the domestic box office.

Released in cinemas on October 10 to much expectation, Vettaiyan Though it promised to highlight the best of Rajinikanth and TJ Gnanavel, the movie drew mixed reviews.

Based on the monitoring website Sacnilk, the action drama with a message on extrajudicial executions and educational frauds apparently brought in Rs 30 crore nett in India. The Tamil version made the main contribution as on the opening day it brought in Rs 26.15 crore. Whereas the Hindi and Kannada versions generated Rs 60 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively, the Telugu version gathered Rs 3.2 crore.

With GOAT ranking first, Vettaiyan emerged as the second largest opening in Tamil film this year. Vettaiyan clock in Rs 30 crore (nett), GOAT made about Rs 44 crore nett in India on Day 1.

Apart from the Indian market, Vettaiyan opened at top position in Malaysia and Singapore.

TJ Gnanavel oversaw the action drama Vettaiyan. In key roles include Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Abhirami, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh. Gnanavel and B Kiruthika jointly wrote the script for the movie.

Sun Pictures funds the movie; Anirudh Ravichander wrote the soundtrack. Part of the technical crew are editor Philomin Raj and cinematographer SR Kathir.
