Stock Market Update: Sensex-Nifty again fall heavily
Stock Market Update: The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, two key market indexes in India, began the day down on Friday, following Wall Street’s overnight decline.
The BSE Sensex was down 39.55 points, or 0.05 percent, at 81,571 at opening bell, while the Nifty 50 was down 39.05 points, or 0.16 percent, at 24,959.
Worldwide Cues
As investors processed data showing consistently rising US inflation, Wall Street experienced a weaker finish on Friday, which was not reflected in the mixed closing on the Asia-Pacific markets.
The broad-based Topix increased by 0.40 percent, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 increased by 0.7%.
The Kospi in South Korea increased by 0.49 percent, while the Kosdaq small-cap index gained 0.36 percent.
The Shanghai Composite and the CSI 300 of mainland China both had decreases of 1.16 and 2.22 percent, respectively, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 2.98 percent.
The S&P/ASX 200 index for Australia fell 0.15 percent.
