Price

Prices for the base E 220d diesel and the top-of-the-line E 450 4Matic are Rs 81.5 lakh and Rs 92.5 lakh, respectively (all figures are ex-showroom). The E 200 is scheduled for delivery this week, the E 220d for delivery after Diwali, and the E 450 for delivery by the middle of November.

The E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) is notably the only right-hand drive market in India, making it the second generation of this type offered here. The Chakan facility of Mercedes-Benz has started production.

Starting at Rs 78.5 lakh, it costs Rs 5.6 lakh more than its nearest rival, the BMW 5 Series, which is priced at Rs 72.9 lakh and is around Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than its predecessor. Only one top-spec M Sport model of the BMW is available with a petrol engine.

Features

The E 450’s strong 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which generates 381 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, is its most notable under-the-hood characteristic. Mercedes states that this model can accelerate in under 4.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

Additional 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines in the range include a 197 bhp diesel (E 220d) and a 204 hp turbo-petrol (E 200). A 48V mild-hybrid system that produces an additional 23 horsepower and 205 Nm is mated to each of the three engines. It also comes with an automated torque converter and a 9-speed gearbox. The 4Matic all-wheel-drive technology from Mercedes is exclusive to the E 450 vehicle.

The new E-Class has a larger wheelbase, is 14 mm longer, and is 13 mm higher than the previous model. Its unique design is derived from the front-end style of Mercedes’ EQ vehicles. It has a big chrome grille with a glossy black strip encircling it, a prominent 3D logo, and many smaller three-pointed stars.

The E-Class has new LED taillamps with a tri-arrow design, 18-inch wheels, and flat door handles in the manner of the S-Class. The front and rear bumpers are adorned with abundant chrome elements.

Highlights for Indian buyers include side and quarter glasses produced locally and an extra wheel hidden under the boot floor.

The rear seating experience of the E-Class LWB is one of its main highlights. The amenities offered to passengers include comfort neck pillows, electrically controlled sun shades, thigh support that extends to a maximum of 36 degrees, and reclining chairs that tilt. With a 14.4-inch center screen, a 12.3-inch passenger screen, and a 12.3-inch instrument panel, the car has Mercedes’ Superscreen configuration.

A high-end 730W, 17-speaker Burmester surround sound system with 4D capability and an optional chauffeur package are among the extra options.

In terms of security, the new E-Class LWB is the first Mercedes-Benz produced in India to come with a front center airbag and Level 2 ADAS. There are eight airbags in the car overall, and consumers may also customize the Active Brake Assist system, which is now standard.
