President Donald Trump briefly delays tariffs on Mexico and Canada
Washington, DC: Prior to the “big one” on April 2, President Donald Trump temporarily postponed duties on a number of imports from Canada and Mexico. He criticized Canada for being a “high tariff nation” and claimed to have agreed after “fruitful conversations” with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. An official said that the purpose of the changes to tariffs on Canada and Mexico is to “protect American farmers and American automakers.”

It was said that this would thereby exclude items covered by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from current tariffs. According to CNN, Trump negotiated the USMCA during his first administration, creating a free trade zone among the three North American nations.
Trump explained the changes by saying, “This makes it much more favorable for our American car manufacturers during this interim period, between now and April 2nd.”
“I spoke to the president of Mexico, a wonderful woman, today, and we helped them with a problem they were having with the short-term tariffs,” he remarked, referring to his chat with Claudia Sheinbaum. Our talk was excellent. We also spoke about drugs, and they’ve been using them a lot more recently. We’ve advanced much in both areas.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump also revealed the specifics of the discussion.
“I have agreed with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum that Mexico will not be obliged to pay tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” he wrote. This contract is valid till April 2nd. I made this concession out of consideration for President Sheinbaum. Our cooperation has been excellent, and we are working closely together on the border to prevent fentanyl and illegal aliens from being able to enter the country. We appreciate President Sheinbaum’s cooperation and hard work.
Trump said, “Those are happening next week, and the big one will be on April 2nd,” in reference to tariffs and Canada. The country of Canada has a high tariff. In addition to imposing a massive duty on timber and other goods, Canada charges us 250 percent for our milk products and other goods. Their lumber is not necessary for us. Compared to them, we have more lumber.
We don’t need lumber from Canada. Therefore, I will be issuing an executive order that will clear our woods, allowing us to harvest trees for a profit and then re-harvest them. Canadian trees are not necessary for us. Cars from Canada are not necessary. We don’t need Canadian energy. Nothing from Canada is required. We are able to support ourselves, which is true of most things. I’m planning to release it in the near future so we don’t have to import lumber from other nations. Why should we import lumber from other nations, you ask? paying high, unusual, and tariff-related costs. We also have lumber. Our lumber is the finest.
Justin Trudeau was accused by President Donald Trump on Thursday of “using the tariff problem” with the United States to run for prime minister again, despite the “terrible job he has done for Canada.”
