According to Surat Chief Fire Officer Basantkumar Pareek, “After over 36 hours, the fire has been totally put out. Everywhere there is smoke, water is sprayed to prevent the fire from starting again. On every level, firefighters are at work. We had a little issue since the shutters were locked and there was synthetic stuff there. The confusion has been fully contained. Permission to resume operations in this market will be given upon the completion of a structural audit and submission of its findings.

He went on to say that the market has around 850 stores and that firefighting would probably continue till dawn.

“Using a gas cutter to cut locks and then misting them with water takes time. There are no fractures, but the plaster has crumbled due to the weather,” he said.

Since the fire started on Wednesday morning, officials have been responding quickly to contain the situation.

As firefighters worked to contain the fire, the area was roped off, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhagirath Gadhavi.

“Teams from the fire department are working to put out the fire at the Shiv Shakti textile market. The police have evacuated the whole area, and it has been closed off. Large-scale police deployments have also occurred. To guarantee that there is no traffic in the neighboring regions, work is being done. Here, every team is deployed.

The police are here to protect the other stores that are located here. DCP Gadhavi informed ANI, “All 800 stores in Shiv Shakti market are shuttered, and stores in the other markets have also been closed.

Vasant Parekh, the chief fire officer, had informed the media report that the fire had spread to the first, second, and third levels from the basement.

“A few firefighters were stranded, but they have already been removed. There are fifteen teams. “No casualties have occurred,” he said.
