Rijiju’s comments were made the same day Prime Minister Narendra Modi traveled to Marseille, France, the location of Savarkar’s valiant escape attempt.

“Veer Savarkar is constantly being insulted by the Congress Party. Rijiju posted a letter from Indira Gandhi on X, asking whether the Congress Party could denounce her for admiring Veer Savarkar.

The Indian Consulate in Marseille was officially opened by French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday.

“Landed in Marseille,” he stated in a post on X. This city is very important in India’s struggle for independence. The legendary Veer Savarkar made a valiant effort to flee here. I also want to express my gratitude to the residents of Marseille and the French activists who fought against his transfer to British detention at the time. Generations after generation are still motivated by Veer Savarkar’s courage.

According to Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, PM Modi’s visit to Marseille, a city in southern France with a connection to India’s liberation movement, was a “matter of pride” on Wednesday.

Raut said at a news conference that it is important to acknowledge Veer Savarkar’s role in the Indian liberation movement.
