American-made alcoholic beverages, home appliances, equipment, weapons, dairy goods, fruits, vegetables, apparel, and more are on the list.

It comes a day after US President Donald Trump levied a 10 percent tax on Chinese imports and a 25 percent tariff on Canada and Mexico.

“We don’t want to have this fight, but we are not going to lose it,” Chrystia Freeland, a rival to Justin Trudeau and a contender for prime minister of Canada, said, according to CNN.

Freeland said that since Americans rely on Canada for many necessities, the tariffs will ultimately harm them and branded them a “terrible” notion and a “lose-lose” scenario.

Trump has said that his choice is “worth the price,” even if he acknowledges that it would “hurt” the populace. “Will there be any discomfort? Indeed, maybe (and perhaps not!) However, we will restore America’s greatness, and the cost will be justified,” he said in a post on X.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a press conference on Saturday night that Canada will impose 25% tariffs “against USD 155 billion worth of American goods,” with the first round of penalties going into effect on Tuesday.

Mexico and China, meanwhile, have also voiced their displeasure with Trump’s choice.

According to the Global Times, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce declared in a statement that it will sue the US for its “wrongful practice” before the World Trade Organization.

“China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes US tariffs imposed on Chinese goods,” the ministry said.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo vehemently denounced Trump’s “slander” that the Mexican government had connections to criminal groups and said that Mexico would implement punitive taxes. To address common issues, she suggested forming a working committee of the best security and public health specialists from both nations.
