Maha Kumbh 2025: Over 1.65 million devotees take holy dip at Triveni Sangam on Basant Panchami
Prayagraj: According to authorities, the third ‘Amrit Snan’ on the festival of Basant Panchami began Monday at 4 am, with over 1.65 million devotees taking a holy bath in the Triveni Sangam.
The present Maha Kumbh 2025 at Prayagraj includes the ancient bathing rite, which began with Naga Sadhus plunging into the ghats.
“Naga Sadhus gave Amrit Snan the start on the Ghats. In a post on X, the Maha Kumbh management said that the banks of Triveni are witnessing the old Indian culture and customs with faith and dedication.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department, since the Maha Kumbh Mela began on January 13, more than 340 million (34 crore) devotees have taken part in the holy bathing rite as of February 3.
The devotional fervor has been heightened by the fact that over one million Kalpwasis—devotees who observe month-long spiritual austerities—have joined.
On the occasion of ‘Basant Panchami’ early on Monday morning, a sizable contingent of devotees gathered in Prayagraj to offer prayers to Maa Saraswati and take a sacred plunge in the Ganga River.
As the city prepares to host the holy Amrit Snan on February 3, which coincides with the auspicious date of Basant Panchami, a huge stream of pilgrims was seen at Prayagraj crossroads.
Pilgrims from all around the nation come to take the sacred plunge in the Ganges as part of the current Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
Devotees from all across the nation visited the sacred city, and many of them participated in rites and benevolent deeds.
Basant Panchami is said to be the birthdate of Maa Saraswati; hence, swimming in the Ganga on this auspicious day is very important.
“Today is the ‘Amrit Snan’ on the occasion of Basant Panchami, and the procession of Mahanirvani Akhara and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara is heading towards the Sangam ghat,” Additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Chaturvedi remarked in reference to the preparations for the event. The safety of devotees has been adequately planned for.
Meanwhile, processions for the third ‘Amrit Snan’ of Maha Kumbh 2025 were led by Mahamandleshwars from various akhadas.
As Saints and Nagas made their way to Triveni Sangam for the ‘Amrit Snan’ on the festival of Basant Panchami, police officers also offered prayers.
On the first day of spring, which coincides with the fifth day of the month of Magha, Hindus celebrate Basant Panchami, also called Vasant Panchami, Shri Panchami, and Saraswati Panchami.
Forty days after the feast, it also marks the beginning of the Holi preparations. Throughout the festival, Maa Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of education, music, and the arts, is honored.
