Prayagraj: Despite the thick fog, a large number of devotees gathered in Maha Kumbh
Prayagraj: On Thursday, even though there was a thick layer of fog covering Prayagraj, a lot of devotees nevertheless showed up for the current Mahakumbh, celebrating the important religious event with steadfast devotion.
Prayagraj is expected to see foggy weather until January 31st, according to the India Meteorological Department.
“Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to continue to prevail during night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh till 31st January,” according to the IMD on X.
The meteorological service predicts that the lowest temperature will range from 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
According to an official statement from the Uttar Pradesh Information Department, more than 57.1 million devotees participated in a sacred plunge in the Triveni waters on Wednesday in honor of “Mauni Amavasya.”
According to Vaibhav Krishna, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kumbh, the pre-dawn stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on Wednesday resulted in at least 30 fatalities and 60 injuries. According to him, 25 corpses have been recognized.
According to the DIG, 36 individuals were receiving treatment at a nearby medical college, and four of the fatalities were from Karnataka, one from Assam, and one from Gujarat.
The government of Uttar Pradesh has stated that the relatives of the dead would get Rs 25 lakh in financial help. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has also ordered a judicial investigation and said that a committee would provide the state government with its findings in a certain amount of time.
“Justice Harsh Kumar, retired IAS DK Singh, and former DG VK Gupta will lead a three-member judicial committee. Throughout the day, we have been keeping an eye on the whole situation from the control rooms of the CM, Chief Secretary, and DGP,” he said.
Even though the enormous throng at important bathing ghats temporarily caused a stampede-like scenario, the overall number of people attending the current Magh Mela has already topped 199.4 million.
Beginning on January 13, Maha Kumbh will last till February 26. The three other important “snan” days in Maha Kumbh are February 26 (Maha Shivaratri), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 3 (Basant Panchami—Third Shahi Snan).
